Our Story
Our story begins in Lithuania, where we grew up eating our honey raw and unfiltered from the hive, savouring its wholesome, natural taste. Lithuania has a rich beekeeping tradition and honeybees have a special place in folk culture. The ancient pagan mythology revered Austeja, a bee goddess and Bubilas, her drone husband. Lithuanians use the word for family (šeima) to refer to a colony of bees and the word for friend or mate (bičiulis) has its origin in the word for bee (bitė). To us, bees are respected and cherished friends from nature. The delicious honey they produce is unlike any other and the variety of their floral sources creates uniquely flavoured honeys.
We wanted to share the amazing taste of this raw honey, so we created Baltic Honey Shop to offer our honey to everyone in the UK and farther afield. We started in 2014 with just one honey and the rave reviews we received convinced us to expand the honeys we offer. Our range now includes dark honeys as well as light honeys, each with their own distinctive taste and properties. All our honeys are raw and unprocessed, so they crystallize within a few months and contain pollen, propolis and other gifts from the hive. We are committed to offering natural, great-tasting honey to honey lovers.
